PDC Phil Zamora

Phil was born to Guadalupe & Connie Zamora, Dec 1961 with Marine in his blood, his Father was a young Marine Cpl. at the time so from that point on he was destined to be a Marine, Now lets moved the clock ahead 18 years later, Five days after High School is in San Diego, California (Ah yes a Hollywood Marine) June 18th 1980 standing on the yellow footprints joining platoon 1059 along with 80 other recruits and the rest is history.

Joined C co 1st Bn. 24th Marines in Nov. 1980 spent almost all Marine Corps Career in the Reserves, activated in Dec 1990 in Support of Operation Desert Shield / Storm, Deployed from Lansing to Camp Pendleton, Ca. and on Christmas Day deployed to Okinawa's Camp Hansen on UDP (unit deployed program) where 1/24 was made Special Operations Capable (SOC), (1/24 was first Reserve Unit up to that point made SOC) After being made SOC.  1/24 deployed to Subic Bay, Republic of the Phillippines where 1/24 was part of the Ground Combat element of MAGTF 9-90, Then on June 15th 1990 the deployment turned into a real world mission when  Mt. Pinatubo near Clark Air Force Base blew it's top, Both Clark and Subic Bay were a real mess not only was there volcanic ash snowing down but a typhoon was hitting at the same time and earthquakes were rocking everything for almost 36 hours straight, kind of looked like the end of the world, After 1/24 helped with alot of the cleanup of Subic they deployed back to Okinawa to prepare to be sent back home and the end of 10 month's of activation.

Phil was promoted to the rank of GySgt in 1997, and Retired in March of 2003, Personal awards are.

National Defense Medal, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal, 5 Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medals, Armed Forces Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Navy Commendation Medal.

Phil is married to the former Wendy Harper (Marine & detachment member) Has one son Michael and one Daughter Melinda Burpee which is in the Air Force and married to a young Devil-dog Nick Burpee (Detachment member) 2 grandchildren Jackson & Brooklyn

Phil is currently the detachment Sr Vice Commandant and Web Sgt of this website, and has been with the detachment since 2001

Was elected in June 2006 to a Department of Michigan position - Central Zone Vice Commandant

Was elected in June 2007 to a Department of Michigan position - Junior Vice Commandant

Was elected in June 2008 to a Department of Michigan position - Senior Vice Commandant

Was elected in June 2009 to a Department of Michigan position - Department Commandant

Was elected in June 2010 to the position of Commander of the Michigan Commanders Group.

Was appointed in June 2011 to the position of National Central Division - Aide de Camp - Michigan
